English summary

Czech Horology Society

Český spolek horologický is a non-profit association of clock enthusiasts, restorers and craftspeople based in Czechia. We run the Hodinárium exhibition at Děčín Castle, restore historical tower clocks across the country, and operate a 200+ article online encyclopedia of horology.

What we do

  • Hodinárium Děčín — a permanent exhibition of clocks at the Děčín chateau in northern Bohemia: Black Forest clocks, electric clocks, mechanical regulators, and tower clock movements from the 15th century onwards.
  • Tower-clock restoration — identification, conservation and documentation of historical tower clock movements. Past projects include movements from Soběslav, Bychory, Janovice and others.
  • Online encyclopedia — over 200 articles on clockmaking on hodinarium-eu.pages.dev, plus a dedicated specialised website on the Prague Astronomical Clock at orloj.eu.
  • Member meetings & lectures — annual general assemblies and presentations by members on horology, restoration projects and DIY clockmaking.

Mission statement

The purpose of the association is to present and popularise the technical and artistic development of clocks from their earliest constructions to the present day. To promote interest in this field of cultural heritage we primarily use the possibilities of the Internet. We promote and popularise creative work in this field including small-scale and amateur clockmakers.
